ICIEV conference begins at DU
The two-day 5th International Conference on Informatics, Electronics and Vision (ICIEV) began on Friday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU).
DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference as the chief guest.
Centre for Natural Science & Engineering Research (CNSER) organised the conference in cooperation with IEEE Computer Society, IEEE Pami Technical Committee, Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers, Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, Institute of Mobile of Japan and Japan Institute of Navigation.
Arefin Siddique, in his speech, urged the researcher to conduct research on science and technology for upgrading human civilisation.
He hoped that this conference would promote collaborations among researchers and create partnership among universities and industries.
DU Prof Anisur Rahman passes away
Founding chairman of Clinical Psychology Department of Dhaka University (DU) and Supernumerary Professor Dr M Anisur Rahman died of old age complications at a city hospital here Friday evening.
He breathed his last at around 7pm at LabAid Hospital yesterday at the age of 70.
Anisur left behind a daughter, host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
DU Vice- chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, President and General Secretary of Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA) Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed and Prof ASM Maksud Kamal in separate messages of condolence expressed deep shock at his demise.
They prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Cultural programme held at BAU
Ankur, a cultural organisation of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh on Friday night staged a cultural programme on the campus.
BAU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Ali Akbar inaugurated the programme titled ‘Isseghuri’, held at the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium of BAU.
The programme was furnished with songs, dances, short drama, choreography and fashion show in where BAU students took part.
An auditorium full audience enjoyed the cultural programme.
Maintain sanctity of mosque: BRUR VC
RANGPUR: Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr AKM Nurun Nabi has called upon every musollis as well as conscious citizen for maintaining the holiness and sanctity of mosque.
“Mosque is a place only for conducting religious worship and none would be allowed to use mosque for political purposes,” the VC said while inaugurating newly built Central Mosque of the university by unveiling plaque on Friday afternoon as the chief guest.
Registrar of BRUR Muhammad Ibrahim Kabir, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Prof Matiur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology Prof Tazul Islam, President of Begum Rokeya University Teachers’ Association Prof RM Hafizur Rahman Selim and President of its Officers’ Association ATGM Golam Feroz also spoke on the occasion.
Later, newly appointed Imam of the Central Mosque Rakib Uddin Ahmed conducted milad and doa mahfil participated by the VC, Heads of different Departments, Provosts of different Halls, teachers, students, officials and employees of the university.
A total of 500 musollis will be able to offer prayers at a time in the newly built Central Mosque constructed by the authority of Begum Rokeya University at a cost of Taka 2.50 crore on the campus.
