Sever ties with Pakistan if necessary: Hanif

In the wake of Pakistans unsolicited and unwelcome reaction following the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, Awami League Joint Secretary General Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif yesterday weighed in, reports UNB. The people of Bangladesh would consider whether they will continue diplomatic ties with Pakistan if the country intervenes again into the internal affairs of Bangladesh. If necessary, we will sever ties with Pakistan to stop the defeated force intervening in the internal affairs of Bangladesh, he said.
The ruling party leader said this while addressing a reception programme organised at a community center at Kamrangirchar in the capital. The reception was accorded by Kamrangirchar Thana Awami League, was the newly elected presidents and secretaries of Awami League Dhaka units-North and South.
Pakistan summoned the Bangladesh envoy two days after Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shuja Alam was summoned and handed over a note verbale protesting the issuance of press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan voicing concern over Supreme Courts dismissal of the review petition of war crimes convict Matiur Rahman Nizami. About the execution of Nizami, the AL leader said Nizami was a citizen of Bangladesh. He was tried for war crimes charges and later executed as per verdict. The trial of a Bangladeshi will be according to the laws of the land.
