Singer Nurjahan Alim, daughter of late noted folk musician Abdul Alim, enthralled the audience with the rendition of the legendary songs of his father at a musical programme at Abdul Karim Shahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy on Wednesday. Among others, the musical evening was attended by Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith as chief guest and principal of London Grace International School Mafruda Khan as special guest. Lyricist Shahidullah Faraizi presided over the programme.
In the programme, Nurjahan Alim mesmerised the audience with some of the popular numbers of Abdul Alim including ‘Saat Bhai Champa’, ‘Sob Sakhire Par Korite’, ‘Premer Mora Jole Dube Na’, ‘Holudia Pakhi’, ‘Ei Je Dunia Kisero Lagiya’ and others.
Born in Dhaka, Nurjahan initially got her inspiration in music from her father, renowned folk singer of Bangladesh late Abdul Alim. Later, she learnt music from other renowned Ustads like Akhter Sadmani and Nazrul Islam. She also got trained in classical music under Anup Barua in Chhayanaut.
After her excellent performance in ‘Notun Kuri’ in Bangladesh Television, Nurjahan has been regularly performing in stage programmes and different TV channels. She released a solo album titled ‘Majhi’ in 2014. She is currently working for her next album ‘A Tribute to Abdul Alim’. She received several awards like ‘Pen Pulse Club Award’, and ‘Badshah Khalid Award’. l
