Olympic Village to be set up near Padma Bridge
An Olympic Village will be established on the char of the Padma River near the Padma Bridge in Louhajang upazila, reports UNB.
The international standard Olympic Village will be set on 12 acres of land comprising Brahmangaon, Taratia, Dhankunia and Sainhati mouzas of Louhajang.
There will be modern facilities, including stadiums for cricket, football and other sports, at the Olympic Village.
Local MP Sagufta Yasmin, Youth and Sports Secretary Kazi Akhtar Uddin Ahmed and National Sports Council Secretary Ashok Kumar Biswas visited the primarily selected site on Wednesday.
AL man hacked dead
Kushtia: A local Awami League activist was hacked to death in Daulatpur upazila on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Akkas Ali, 38, son of late Rahmat Sarder of Daulatkhan Godown Bazar village in the upazila.
A group of criminals intercepted the motorbike of Akkas at Pragpur field around 10:30pm while going to Daulatpur along with Jubo League leader Ali Nasir, said officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station Shahidul Islam Shahin quoting Nasir. As Akkas tried to speed away, the criminals chopped him indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.
Nasir managed to flee the attack and informed locals and later police who recovered the body from the spot.
Body recovered in Jamalpur

Police recovered the body of a farmer who was allegedly killed over a land dispute in Dewanganj upazila of the district yesterday morning.
The victim was identified as Manzil Hossain ,45, son of late Ezaluddin of village Charkalikapur village under Dewanganj upazila.
Police found his body hanging from a branch of a tree near his house in the village.
Police said Manzil Hossain had dispute over land with his neighbor Ismail Hossain for a long time.
Police suspect that Manjil Hossain was strangulated to death and his body was hanged with the tree.
Police sent the body to Jamalpur General Hospital for autopsy.
Police arrested Ismail Hossain, Gelli Begum and Minara Begum in connection with the murder.
A case was filed with Dewanganj police station.
Erosion victims receive cheques
FARIDPUR: Charbhadrasan upazila parshad distributed cheques among the river erosion affected families of the upazila on Wednesday, reports BSS.
In a simple function held at the upazila parishad premises eighty Padma river erosion affected families were given cheques of Taka 4 lakh at the rate of Taka 5 thousand each family.
It may be mentioned here that Charbhadrasan upazila is the worst affected area by the river erosion of Padma every year when thousands of people faced the calamities loosing homesteads and crops.
The cheques were given from the National Social Welfare council of the government.
