Teenage worker dies as he ‘falls’ from bldg

A teenage employee of a residential hotel, who was severely injured after allegedly being beaten and dropped from the hotel building by its owner, died at Jessore Medical College Hospital on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Mafiqul Islam Munna, 16, son of Jahangir Hossain, a resident of Bahilapota village in Sharsha upazila.
Munna used to work at ‘Sonar Bangla Residential Hotel’ as a hotel boy.
Victim’s uncle Shamim filed a case with Benapole Port Police Station against the hotel owner, his wife and son in connection with the incident, said Officer-in-charge of the police station Apurba Hasan.
According to the case statement, on Sunday night, hotel owner Abu Taleb beat up Munna over a trifling matter and dropped him from the rooftop of the hotel building, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, Taleb sent Munna to his uncle Shamim’s house at Sadipur village.
On the following day, Munna was admitted to a private clinic and later, as his condition kept deteriorating, he was shifted to Jessore Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday night.
Police have arrested hotel owner’s wife Nurunnahar Begum and son Milon Ali while the owner is still absconding, the OC added.
