English Language Resource Centre opens at IUB
The Department of English of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) inaugurated an ‘English Language Resource Centre’ at a function on its campus at Bashundhara in the capital yesterday, says a press release.
The English Language Resource Centre (ELRC) of IUB is an innovative solution for imparting English language skills to students. It will equip them with skills for their present and future academic pursuits and also prepare them to function effectively in actual professional, social and everyday situations.
Prof M Omar Rahman, vice-chancellor, IUB, formally inaugurated the Centre as the chief guest. Mr George Mesthos, Cultural Affairs Officer of American Centre, Dhaka was the special guest. Katy Mc Alary, English Language Fellow at IUB, also spoke on the occasion. Towhid Bin Muzaffar, head, Department of English, IUB, delivered the introductory remarks and explained the purpose of opening this Centre while Prof Razia Sultana Khan from the department of English, IUB, gave the vote of thanks.
80 students get internship certificates at BAU
MYMENSINGH: A total 80 students of the Veterinary Faculty of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) were given certificates for successfully completing their internship in home and abroad. The 13th internship certificate giving ceremony was held at the conference room of Teacher Student Centre (TSC) of BAU on Thursday. Chaired by Md Abdus Samad, dean of the Veterinary Faculty, BAU vice-chancellor Md Ali Akbar distributed certificates, attending the programme as the chief guest. Marketing head of Elanco Bangladesh, Dr Humayun Arefin attended the programme as the special guest. In the programme, vice-chancellor in his speech told the students to apply the best use of their acquired knowledge for the betterment of animal health.
Book unveiling ceremony held at UGC
The cover of a book titled ‘A Manual of Style and Standards in Academic, Writing, Editing and Publishing’ was unveiled at UGC auditorium on Wednesday, says a press release.
UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan as the chief guest unveiled the book authored by Professor Manzurul Islam and published by Partridge Singapore (A Penguin Random House Company, USA). UGC Member Professor M Shah Nowaz Ali presided over the function. UGC Chairman, in his speech said that teachers, students, researchers, authors, editors and copy editors will find the book useful in writing and editing manuscript. He stressed the need for quality editing for writing a book. Shudangshu Shekhar Roy, Department of Printing and Publishing Studies, Dhaka University, Mofidul Hoque, Director/ Publisher, Shahitya Prokash and Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Quality Assurance Unit, UGC discussed on the book. Teachers of universities and officials of UGC were present on the occasion.
