CHITTAGONG: University of Sciences and Technology Chittagong (USTC) yesterday observed the International Nurses Day 2016 to raise awareness about the important role of nurses in the healthcare and in society, reports BSS.
Every year, May 12 is observed as the International Nurses Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s, who is widely considered the founder of modern nursing.
Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital (BBMH) and Anowara Nur Nursing Institute (ANNI) of USTC jointly celebrated the day with this year’s theme “Nurses: A Force for Change: Improving health system’s resilience”.
A discussion meeting was also held on the day’s theme at Maulana Bhashani Auditorium of USTC with USTC Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Probhat Chandra Barua in the chair.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) commissioner Mohammad Ikbal Bahar addressed the discussion as the chief guest while USCT Pro-VC Prof Dr Nurul Absar and director of (BBMH) Prof Dr Abdul Wahid Al Mamun addressed it as the special guests.
Terming nurses as daughters, wives and mothers of the nation, USTC VC Prof Dr Probhat Chandra Barua said nursing is the most important healthcare profession in the world and nurses play a key role in all of medical institutions, being responsible for the welfare, safety and recovery of patients.
“The wealth of our nation depends on the health of our population and the health of our population depends on nursing”, he added.
