The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday sued five people, including four officials of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB), for their alleged involvement in embezzling Tk 8.35 crore by showing lower electricity bills.
ACC deputy director Farid Ahmed Patwari filed the case (Case No 40) with Rupganj Thana of Narayanganj yesterday, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told The Independent.
The accused are Cox's Bazar Rural Electrification Association (REA) DGM Swadesh Chandra Saha Roy, Dinajpur REA-1 AGM Najrul Islam, Narayanganj REA line technician Nurul Haque, line-man Shahrom Beg and Tajul Islam Dhali, managing director of HH Textile Mills Ltd in Rupganj of Narayanganj .
According to the first information report (FIR), HH Textile Mills Ltd had electricity line with REB. The accused persons were involved in embezzlement of a total of Tk 8, 35,24,776 crore from June 2005 to June 2014 by displaying lower electricity bill in the meter (no. 21251446) set in the factory.
During the time, the accused had been working in Rupganj, according to the FIR. The case was filed against the five persons under section B of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
