Proper treatment and modern diagnostic practices can effectively push back the menace of thalassaemia and help thalassaemics to have a better quality of life.
This was opined by Dr Sujit Kar Purkayastha, the medical director of Peerless Hospital in Kolkata.
Dr Purkayastha was speaking at an event organised on Tuesday in Kolkata, to mark Thalassaemia Day.
Peerless Hospital, which has already been on the forefront of management and treatment of thalassaemia in India, announced the introduction of DNA sequencing which helps in precision management of thalassaemia, for which, proper diagnosis at all levels and subsequent corrective steps can go a long way for the patients.
On the occasion, the hospital honoured three thalassaemia survivors who have not let the disease control their lives and show their determination in building a brighter future.
Dr Prosanta Chowdhury, thalassaemia and haemoglobinopathy consultant with Peerless Hospital, also spoke on the occasion.
