Nazmul Hassan Papon, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), does not want to claim any credits to solve the problem of Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) but to carry on the instruction of the Prime Minister when the BCB boss also ensured to provide financial support to BHF.
Papon stated this while inaugurating the Green Delta Premier Division Hockey League yesterday as the chief guest at Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium in the capital.
He said BCB will extend their helping hand to provide financial support for the development of hockey and the initial financial support from BCB will provide for three years for a foreign coach.
Responding to different queries he also talked about the bilateral cricket series.
Papon, first of all said, “Actually, I don’t deserve any credits, I worked following the instruction of the Prime Minister to solve the problem of hockey.”
About his helping hands for the betterment of hockey, Papon said, “First of all I don’t want to play any role, basically I am not hockey expert like Sadeque Bhai (BHF general secretary Abdus Sadeque) and Rahmat Bhai (Khawja Rahmat Ullah, BHF vice-president) who are here.”
“They will set a plan and to implement that, we will try to provide the financial support.”
About the financial support to appoint a coach Papon said, “That has already been done. If they would manage a world class coach from abroad, BCB would sponsor and we are committed to do it.”
“As per I know they have already looking for a coach and will take final decision very soon. What we said about coach, that we will sponsor for first three years and we will observe and BCB will give whole the money.”
Replying to another query about coach, Papon said, “We are also looking for a good coach and also contact with Australia and Netherlands but their choice is first preference.”
“Apart from coach, there are so many important works, the games will have to organise at district level and produce players from grass roots and will have to think whether it would possible to provide financial support to players.”
“It is a nice stadium but there is no flood light and to make an international standard stadiums we have to overcome all these problems. If I go to Prime Minister, she will not say ‘No’. Our Prime Minister is very fond of sports, there is no one in the world like her who loves sports so much. I believe if we go to her with these problems she will support us.”
Papon also said that there would be not problem of sponsors, if BHF can set specific programme and ensure the implementation all the business houses will come forward to help them.
“We want long term development programme and we will provide all financial support to make it success,” Papon revealed to help BHF for the development of the country’s hockey.
Papon while talking about the bilateral cricket series said, “There are two issues, what I have done first that was about ranking. Good news is that we have some offers but if we have clash with our programme then it will not possible to play and we are talking with somebody. All are higher level teams.”
