Autumn in Canada

Autumn in Canada

Part-2

We then flew to Toronto, a leading international centre of business, finance, arts, and culture.
Toronto has a racially diverse population. To our surprise, we came across many gurdwaras and South Asians, particularly Sikh drivers were everywhere.
During the course of our stay, we visited the  iconic CN Tower, one of the highest freestanding structures in the world.
Nearby is the Eaton’s Centre, located in the heart of downtown Toronto. The shopping centre is an architectural masterpiece with its glass domed features, housing hundreds of shops.
A visit to the Casa Loma neighbourhood was, indeed, memorable. It includes a storybook castle built in 1911, complete with gardens, turrets, stables, secret passages, and a bowling alley. The Spadina House, a 19th-century manor, is now a museum.
We drove for about three hours to reach Niagara Falls from Toronto. The city is dominated by the world-famous set of three large waterfalls on the Niagara River.
The largest, Horseshoe Falls, lies on the western bank of the Niagara River in the region of Southern Ontario. Across the river is Niagara Falls, New York.
The grandeur and beauty of the waterfalls can be best appreciated from the Canadian side of the river. The spectacular boat ride aboard ‘Hornblower’ was simply mindblowing. We also visited Niagara-on-the-Lake, a tranquil small town located where the Niagara River meets Lake Ontario, an hour by road from the Falls.
We then travelled to Montreal by train, a four-hour ride.  It provided us an opportunity to witness the suburbs and the picturesque landscape with trees in all shades of colours. Nature here seemed as if a painter had put colourful touches to his canvas.
The Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal is simply beautiful and serene. The mammoth and thriving Catholic church is the most significant landmark of the city. The stunning medieval-style interior features wood carvings and exquisite stained-glass windows. We spent a lovely afternoon strolling around the surrounding area and then ended it with a visit to the beautiful basilica.
We spent an entire day at Parc du Mont-Royal, referred to as ‘the mountain’ by locals. The place provides an excellent view of the city and is a popular recreation spot. It is the crown jewel of Montreal.  An oasis from city life, nature here reveals its true beauty. The protected district covers a forested mountain, providing abundant green spaces, shrubs and flowers, as well as habitats for hundreds of species of birds and other wildlife.
To the northwest of the park is the impressive Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount-Royal. It is the largest shrine dedicated to Saint Joseph in the world. Treasures include the votive chapel, a museum and the spectacular gardens, containing the Way of Cross, the Crypt Church and the majestic Basilica.
We spent sometime at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montreal, one of the most impressive museums in North America. The museum has Montreal’s largest art collection, which includes furniture, glass, silverware, textiles, ceramics and works of industrial design. The museum has four pavilions, which includes a converted church dedicated to Canadian art, and a sculpture garden.
Canada is one of the largest countries in the world.Too many places to visit. However,we tried to visit as many places of interest as possible within a short time. The Anthropology Museum, Niagara Falls, iconic CN Tower, Notre Dame Basillica and of course, the colourful autumn, still remain fresh in our mind.
The end.
