Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman didn’t show any mercy those who committed crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said yesterday.
Besides, it’s a matter of time banning the politics of Jamaat-e-Islami, he said. Quoting Bangabandhu, Tofail said, “Those who are involved in looting properties, arson and rape during war time will not be pardoned.” It is ended the long-awaited trial through hanging war criminal Matiur Rahman Nizami, he added.
“War criminals are being tried or trying for committing crimes against humanity. At the same time, judges are giving verdicts both for organisation and individual person for committing crimes against humanity in 1971. This process (banning Jamaat) will begin in phases,” the commerce minister told reporters at the secretariat yesterday.
Criticizing BNP, the veteran Awami League leader said, “BNP made the war criminals ministers. They stigmatized the nation by giving the national flags in their cars. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina freed the nation from the stigma by trying war criminals.”
“It’s possible because she is the daughter of Bangabandhu,” he added. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has two big achievements—trial of killers of Bangabandhu and impartial trial of war criminals, Tofail said, adding, “Trial of Bangabandhu killers have completed. Trial of war criminals those who committed crimes against humanity has completed partly and the remaining under trial.”
On the other hand talking to the newsmen law minister advocate Anisul Huq yesterday said, a bill incorporating the provision to ban Jamaat would be tabled in the cabinet soon.
