Police yesterday submitted chargesheets against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and 26 others in two cases filed in connection with arson attacks in the city’s Darussalam area last year, reports UNB.
Sub-inspectors of Darussalam Police Station M Shahidur Rahman and Abdur Razzak separately pressed the charges before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court in the two cases.
Khaleda has been shown ‘as order giver’ accused in the chargesheets of the two cases—one filed for criminal acts and another under the Special Powers Act.
Other than BNP leader Aman Ullah Aman and one Kamal Hossain, the rest of the accused, including Khaleda, were shown fugitive in the chargesheets.
The two sub-inspectors also appealed to the court to issue a warrant for Khaleda’s arrest.
Metropolitan magistrate Imdadul Haque set May 31 and June 1 for hearing the cases over accepting the chargesheets.
According to the statement of the case filed under the Special Powers Act, 19 identified accused with the help some unidentified ones torched a passenger bus on February 4, 2015 near Shah Ali Mazar during the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s anti-government movement. Later, Darussalam Police Station SI Monir Hossain filed the case under the Special Powers Act.
Darussalam Police Station SI Shah Alam filed a criminal case against 20 identified and some other unidentified BNP leaders and activists as they ‘dictated by their leader Khaleda Zia’ set fire to a parked bus at Gabtoli BRTC Bus Terminal on March 3 the same year.
