Experts at a discussion here have stressed on adoption of the eco-friendly, indigenous and climate resilient farm practices to increase crop output for improving livelihoods of the small and marginalised farmers, reports BSS.
RDRS Bangladesh, a reputed NGO, organised the discussion on ‘Scaling Strategy of Selected Eco-friendly Indigenous and Climate Resilient farm Practices’ at its conference room in the city recently. The discussion was arranged under the 5-year term Improving Food Security Governance in South & Southeast Asia through Strengthened Participation of Organisations of Marginalised Farmers Regional Project.
The regional project is being implemented in Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Myanmar to improve livelihood of 10.20 lakh marginalised households, including ethnic communities, with assistance of European Union and Dan Church Aid (DCA).
In Bangladesh, the project activities are being implemented in Thakurgaon, Panchagarh and Netrokona to improve livelihoods of 50,000 small and marginal farmers’ households belonging to the ethnic tribes, minority Hindu, extremely poor Muslim and fishing communities.
Acting Rangpur Regional Additional Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) SM Ashraf Ali attended the workshop as chief guest with Chairman of Agricultural Extension Department of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University Professor Dr. Saiful Huda in the chair. Regional Project Coordinator of DCA Mr. Abdur Rahman narrated specific objectives of the project to equip the target groups and networks with critical understanding of food and nutrition governance and ability to participate in decision making processes.
“The objectives also include increasing engagement of the target groups and networks in relevant national, regional and global forums to protect and promote the indigenous, eco-friendly farm practices and farmer interests,” he said.
Agriculture and Environment Coordinator of RDRS Bangladesh Mamunur Rashid delivered keynote presentation on the research work styled “Scaling strategy of selected eco-friendly indigenous and climate resilient farm practices.”
