Egypt has good relations with Bangladesh all along. Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi is on “good terms” with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government and will enhance political and economic relationship with Bangladesh to a new height, according to this writer’s conversation with Egyptian Ambassador to Bangladesh Mahmoud Ezzat.
Bangladesh and Egypt share common views on international issues such as the Palestinian land and D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, OIC. With regards to commercial ties, the trade volume between the two countries is one hundred million US Dollar. Bangladesh primarily buys fertilizer, iron, steel, and mining products from Egypt and sells mainly textiles. A small number of Bangladeshi students study in Egypt under its scholarship program.
After years of political upheaval that left the economy in tatters, Egypt has made progress in restoring confidence. Recent policy choices include measures designed to induce more dynamic investment and spur much needed private-sectors job creation .The reform of fuel subsidies has been notable achievements.
There is a similarity between Bangladesh and Egypt from the aspect of religion, nature and society. Since 1971 after Liberation War of Bangladesh, a strong diplomatic relationship has still been existing between Bangladesh and Egypt, which is strengthening by day.
The ambassador considers that friendship between Egypt and Bangladesh is very warm. He added, ‘since my arrival in Bangladesh I have opened the door for all Bangladeshi people who want to visit and to do business in Egypt.” Inviting to all Bangladeshi business communities to invest in Egypt, he said, there is an ample opportunity in Egypt for investment and doing business.
Referring to recent political situation of Egypt, Mr. Mahmoud Ezzat said, Egyptian people who ousted President Hosni Mubarak. The ensuing period of political instability included dissolution of the parliament in 2012, recurring street dem¬onstrations and a people revolution that ousted the government of Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party in 2013. A new constitution was approved by ref¬erendum in January 2014. The current president Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi, was elected in May 2014. As political turmoil has subsided, the vital tourism industry has begun to revive despite continued terrorist attacks, and there are the signs of increasing investments and economic growth. Despite only a small amount of arable land, farming is an important part of Egypt’s relatively well-diversified economy and employs about 30 percent of the workforce.
Ambassador added that, the political situation is now much stable than before. Therefore a suitable time for operating the business has been prevailing in Egypt.
He also promised to give Bangladeshis all kind of idea and all-out cooperation as well as a suitable place for doing business in Egypt. In addition to this, they will be given visa without any trouble from the Egypt Embassy in Bangladesh.
Mahmoud Ezzat further said, through a dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as an emerging country Bangladesh financially is rapidly going forward on the way of development. That's why; today Bangladesh has enlisted in the list of middle income country among the world. As a friendly country of Bangladesh, Egypt always stays with Bangladesh or Egypt is always with Bangladesh and Egypt is ready to give its all-out cooperation to Bangladesh in the field of economic development of Bangladesh.
Egypt wants to recruit 2500 Bangladeshi skilled Worker in textile, garment, construction and tourism sectors of Egypt to more strengthen the relationship between Bangladesh and Egypt.
As minimum wages, those workers will get per month 500 US dollar worth 40000 BDT during the joining in the job. In this context, Egypt is formally going to sign an agreement (MOU) with Bangladesh government very soon and regarding this, details will be informed to journalists after signing ceremony with Bangladesh government. Besides those who are very experienced about computer software in Bangladesh, there is a good opportunity for them to work in Egypt and they will get priority in recruiting in different organizations in Egypt.
There are no activities of Islamic State (ISIS) in Egypt. Egypt is fully ISIS frees a developing peaceful country, and Egypt never support the ISIS, Rather than Egypt has been fighting against terrorism including ISIS.
Therefore any interested tourist from any country can safely travel in our beautiful country Egypt. So I am welcoming all Bangladeshi friends for traveling in Egypt.
