Grocer hacked dead in Gazipur
Gazipur: A grocery shop owner was hacked to death by miscreants at Khalpara village in Kaliganj upazila on Saturday evening, reports UNB..
The deceased was identified as Sharif Hossain.
Sub-inspector Farid Udddin Ahmed of Kaliganj police station said a group of miscreants attacked Sharif and beat him indiscriminately while he was returning from the neighbouring village in the evening, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Sunday morning.
A case was filed against a local named Jakaria, with whom Sharif had an enmity, said police.
9,900 farmers get agri-inputs
JESSORE: Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) distributed seeds, fertilizer and cash among 9,900 farmers in eight upazilas of the district this season, reports BSS.
The DAE office sources said under an incentive programme on Aush paddy cultivation, 7,700 farmers got incentive for HYV Aush cultivation and 2,200 farmers got for Nerica variety paddy cultivation in the district.
Of them 1,050 farmers got the incentives for cultivating HYV and Nerica variety Aush paddy in Sadar upazila, 1,960 farmers in Sharsha, 1,300 farmers in Jhikargacha, 930 farmers in Abhaynagar, 770 farmers in Bagherpara, 2,050 farmers in Monirampur, 860 farmers in Keshabpur and 980 farmers got the incentives for cultivating HYV and Nerica variety Aush paddy in Chaugachha upazila.
Sources said each of the farmers got 5-kg seed, 20-kg Urea fertilizer, 10-kg DAP fertilizer, 10-kg MOP fertilizer and cash Tk 400 for irrigation to their land.
On the other hand for cultivation of Nerica variety paddy on one bigha of land, a farmer got 10-kg seed, 20-kg Urea fertilizer, 10-kg DAP fertilizer, 10-kg MOP fertilizer and cash Tk 400 for irrigation and Tk 400 for weeding.
School feeding programme begins
GAIBANDHA: School feeding programme began today Ghagoa Government Primary School of Ghagoa union in Sadar upazila amid much enthusiasm to the children and the teachers, reports BSS.
An inaugural ceremony was also held on the school premises recently with head teacher of the school M. Mahfuzul Selim in the chair. CIP Bangladesh in partnership with BRAC organized the function under SUSTAIN project funded by UK aid in cooperation with Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) and Department of Agriculture Extension.
Additional deputy commissioner (General) M. Shamsul Azam addressed the function as the chief guest and head teacher of Ghagoa MB High School Mahbubul Alam was present as the special guest. The function was also addressed, among others, by medical officer Dr. Miftahul Zannat Khan, assistant upazila education officer Tahera Naznin, Branch manager of Brac Pankaj Roy, programme coordinator Enamul Haque, programme officer Ramzan Ali and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
