Rabindra Mela held to mark Tagore’s birth anniv

On the occasion of the 155th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore, Channel i organised a fair titled ‘AB Bank Channel i Rabindra Mela’ yesterday on Channel i premises in the city’s Tejgaon area. This year, Chairman of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra noted educationalist Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed and Tapan Mahmud were bestowed with lifetime achievement award. Abdullah Abu Sayeed was honoured for his contribution towards practicing Tagore literature, while Tapan Mahmud was honoured for Rabindra Sangeet. Managing director of Channel i Faridur Reza Sagor, director and head of news Shykh Seraj, Channel i board of directors Abdur Rashid Majumdar, Jahiruddin Mahmud Mamun and Mukit Majumdar Babu, IFIC Bank managing director Shah Alam Sarwar, deputy managing director of AB Bank Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury and Poet Asad Chowdhury handed over uttorio (celebratory scarf), crest and cheque to the award recipients.
After receiving the award, Abdullah Abu Sayeed said, “If the award would have given to Bishwa Sahitya Kendra instead of me, I would be happier. This is my place for honour.” At that moment, Faridur Reza Sagor announced that Channel i will present books worth Tk. one lac to Bishwa Sahitya Kendra and Tk. one lac to the deprived Rabindra Sangeet artistes. Beginning from 4pm, this year’s Rabindra Mela featured the performance of Rabindra Sangeet by young and veteran singers, Rabindra dance-drama, children’s dance, reciting Tagore poems, reading out his essays and drawing on Rabindranath. In addition, about 25 stalls of small and handicraft industries were installed at the fair premises.
During the opening ceremony of the programme, noted thespians Ataur Rahman, Ramendu Majumdar, Poet Habibullah Siraji and Syed Salauddin Jaki, among others, were present. The event was also attended by the veterans like Bangla Academy director general Shamsuzzaman Khan and Laila Hasan, among others. Singer Sadi Muhammad, Tapan Mahmud, Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Azizur Rahman Tuhin and others rendered songs at the programme. Besides, Rabindra exponents, Rabindra artistes, cultural personalities, litterateurs, editors from different media houses and directors of Channel i, among others, were also present.
