To celebrate the 155th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore on May 5 (25 Baishakh), Chhayanaut, one of the most prominent cultural organisations in the country, organised a two-day festival titled ‘Rabindra Utsab 1423’ on Saturday and Sunday at its Dhanmondi premises in the city. The opening day of the festival began with the rendition of a chorus titled ‘Shubo Karmopathe Dhar Nirbhay Gan’. The artistes of Chhayanaut also danced with the song titled ‘Hriday Amar Oi Bujhi Tor Baishakhi Jhar’. The stage was decorated with the beautiful paintings—the artworks by Rabindranath Tagore himself. “There is a personal-level dimension to enjoy the art of Rabindranath. When a nation-community enjoys that art collectively, the very dimension becomes much more beautiful crossing the personal level. Through celebrating the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore in 1961, Bangalees, as a nation, gave that beauty an institutional form. This practice, now transforming into a power of the masses, will take the nation ahead”, Mafidul Haque said in the welcome speech on Saturday.
The artistes rendered solo and chorus songs one after another. The celebration also included the chorus of Baitalik and lyrical dance by Nrityanandan. Tropa Majumdar and Jayanta Roy recited and read out from Rabindranath.
On the second day of the festival, there were solo and chorus song, along with dance performance. Besides, an event titled ‘Amar Rabindranath’, a programme featuring Emeritus Professor Anisuzzaman’s talk and his favourite songs, was also arranged. About 60 artistes took part in the two-day ‘Rabindra Utsab’ through the performance of song, dance, recitation and reading essays from Rabindranath.
