BCB emphasizes building strong spin-department

BCB emphasizes building
strong spin-department

With Bangladesh pace bowling resources looking seemingly rich by the arrival of some quality fast bowlers, the BCB has lately focused on to enrich the spin department. The spin bowling was the Bangladesh’s strong point before the revolution of fast bowling, which became more potent weapon with the inclusion of tremendously talented Mustafizur Rahman.
The spin department as of now used to be one dimensional with the left arm spinner enjoying the success mostly.
The inclusion of leg-spinner Jubair Hossain gave the side a fresh breath albeit he didn’t enjoy the success as he was expected. He though didn’t get enough chances what he basically deserved. Even he was ignored in the domestic circuit until the Abahani Limited made a room for him in the playing XI regularly in this season. Jubair’s reason of not being included in the playing squad even in domestic circuit was pretty farcical—as the clubs believed the leg-spinner couldn’t thrive in this condition. The leg-spinner however proved those verdicts were totally wrong- 12 wickets in four matches and remained in the top position of bowling chart is a testament of his caliber what the clubs could notice.
Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza once said Jubair could be Bangladesh’s second best bowler after Mustafizur Rahman should he focuses on his bowling.
Before the start of the Dhaka Premier League he advised Jubair to hit the line and length preciously and gave no headache what the people think about him.
Jubair was in dilemma that time if he would be featured in the playing XI regularly. As he expressed his concern to Mashrafe, the captain said, “You just keep practicing, never give it thought whether you will be included into the team. Just correct your line and length and if you do so, you will be best spinner of the country and second best bowler after Mustafizur Rahman.”
Off-spinner Sohag Gazi stormed into the international circuit with bang but Bangladesh relished the success of the talented spinner for a brief time. He lost form after his bowling action was remodeled. He though is still around the corner, couldn’t do something extraordinary to bring back the limelight on him. There is however several spinners in the pipeline who could give Bangladesh bowling attack a diversity which is what forced BCB to rethink about the strategy.
Cricket Operations chairman Akram Khan of late has come forward with some specific plans. He took the initiative to talk with some great spinners to bring them into the country as spin bowling advisor for a short period.
After the contract of Saqlain Mushtaq was expired, Bangladesh didn’t bring up any spin bowling consultant to nurse the spinners.
Akram informed they have been in discussion with legendary off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan and leg-spinner Shane Warne in a bid to convince them to work with Bangladeshi spinners for a short period. At the same time, former Bangladesh spin bowling consultant Saqlain Mushtaq was also in BCB’s plan. Nothing is finalized as of now.
Sri Lankan great Muralitharan has been working with IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad at the moment while Australian legend Warne is busy with his role as TV commentator.
The BCB however will arrange a spin bowling talent hunt in the coming days and at the same time will make a roadmap as to how the suspected spinners in the domestic circuit will remodel their action.
