65-day ban on deep sea fishing from May 20
The government yesterday imposed a ban on deep sea fishing for 65 days from May 20 to facilitate breeding of fishes and conservation of fish stock in the maritime boundary.
The ban will come into effect from May 20 and continue until July 23 this year, an official release said. All types of trawlers both mechanised and non-mechanised have been instructed not to venture into the sea for catching fish of all species and crustaceans (crabs, lobsters, crayfish, shrimp, krill and barnacles). Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock requested all the commercial trawlers to follow the ban in accordance with SRO no 97-law/2015.

One hurt in cylinder blast
A fire fighter received serious injuries s in a fire extinguisher explosion while he was refilling that in his residence at Kazihata area under Rajpara Police Station in Rajshahi city yesterday morning. The injured was identified as Emdad Hossain, 40. He is a driver of Fire Service and Civil Defense office here. In addition to his main job, he used to refill fire extinguisher, Kaderi Kibria, Control Room Operator of the office said. Emdad was first admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Journo welfare assoc formed
Bakhtiar Rana, deputy chief news editor, and Anup Khastagir, special correspondent, were reelected chairman and secretary of BSS Journalists Welfare Association (BJWA).
The election was held at the triennial conference of the association at Jatiya Pres Club in the capital yesterday.
Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad attended the function as the chief guest. Members of the association Enamul Haque, Fazlul Haque, Ashequn Nabi Chowdhury, Ashraful Haq Jewel, Shahnaj Siddiqui Soma, Mujibur Rahman Jitu, Shahidul Islam Rana and Sajjad Hossain Sabuj, among others, took part in the discussion on the secretary’s report in the first session.

Urs at Azimpur Dayera Sharif
The 223rd Urs Mubarak of Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Mohammad Dayem (R), the founder of Azimpur Dayera Sharif Khankah, was held at Dayera Sharif in the capital yesterday, says a press release.
On the occasion, Qurankhwani, salatul ajker, fateha khawni, zeker, milad mahfil and discussion on the life of the spiritual leader Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Mohammad Dayem (R) was held.  A large number of followers from across the country attended the Urs.   Spiritual leader of Dayera Shariff Alhaj Hazrat Maulana Shah Sufi Syed Ahmadullah led the concluding prayers seeking divine blessing for the peace, prosperity of the country and for greater unity amongst the Muslim Ummah.
