Tribute to Tagore in Barisal

The 155th  birth anniversary of Bishwakabi Rabindranath Tagore (Rabindra Joyanti) was celebrated in the city yesterday with due respect.
Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sanmiloni Parishad organised a day long programme including Rabi Bandona, cultural function, art, song and dance competition on the premises of Ashwini Kumar Hall from morning. Prof Ziaul Haque, chairman of Barisal Education Board inaugurated the programme attending as the chief guest.
The programme, addressed among others, by Nazrul Islam Chunnu, Azmal Hosen Labu, Saifur Rahman Miron and others.
Different educational institutions, cultural organisations including Udichi,   Barisal Natak Nattyam, Prantik, Tansen, Abriti Proshikkhan Kendra, Kheyali and Shabdaboli Group Theatre,  Altaf Mahmud Sangeet Biddyalay and Shur Lohori arranged a day long programme at different places of the city. District administration also organised a programme on Barisal Children Park premises to mark the day with DC Barisal Gazi Md Saifuzaman in the chair. The speakers and participants of the programmes said Rabindranath was an extraordinary talent and would inspire the new generation.
He is a “lighthouse” for the Bengalis. Main themes of Tagore’s works were worship of truth and beauty and expansion of values of the humanity. He was a source of inspiration in all movements, struggles, revolutions, thoughts and creativity of the Bengali nation, they said.
