The condition of pioneering Bengali woman journalist and editor of the country's first illustrated women's weekly “Begum”, who was earlier admitted to a hospital in the capital for old age complications, has turned critical, reports UNB.
Nurjahan Begum who was admitted to the Square Hospital on Wednesday with respiratory problems, including pneumonia, was shifted to the hospital’s intensive care unit on Saturday as her condition deteriorated, said hospital sources.
Nurjahan, 91, earned repute as the pioneering woman journalist as she edited the weekly “Begum” for over six decades as a mouthpiece of Bengali women. The magazine mainly carried write-ups of women as part of its motto to promote the backward Muslim womenfolk.
BSS adds: Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu today visited ailing Bengali woman journalist and editor of the country's first illustrated women's weekly 'Begum', Nurjahan Begum at Square Hospital in the city.
The minister stayed beside her for some time, enquired about her health. The minister also wished her early recovery, said a press release.
