A mobile court on Saturday sentenced Nurul Azim Rony, general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Chittagong city unit to two years jail.
Nurul was arrested with arms from a polling centre on Saturday during the Union Parishad polls.
Judicial Magistrate Harun-or-Rashid led the mobile court. Rony was detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along with a 9mm pistol, 15-round of bullets, a seal and cash Tk26, 000 from Chaila pur Govt Primary School polling centre of Mirza Pur Union Parishad on charge of dominating at polling centre, said BGB and Hathazari Police. He was transferred to Chittagong Central jail yesterday (Sunday) dawn by Hathazari Police. “The mobile court sentenced to two years jail to Rony for violating union parshad elections law,” said Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathazari Police Station.
