Get united against militancy with Tagore’s ideal, says President

President Abdul Hamid yesterday urged all to get united being imbued with the spirit and ideal of great poet Rabindranath Tagore against militancy and communalism, reports UNB.
“I’m calling upon all the citizens to engage themselves in establishing a happy and prosperous Bangladesh standing together against all types of exploitation, deprivation, injustice, conflict, militancy and communalism being imbued with the spirit and ideal of Rabindranath,” he said.
The president was addressing a function marking the 155th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore organised by Cultural Affairs Ministry at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
Abdul Hamid said the meaning of education to Rabindranath was to coordinate with the nature and emancipate the soul standing beyond narrowness.
“His thoughts and activities on poverty alleviation, building rural society and maintaining health and environment still inspire us. The thoughts and philosophy of Rabindranath now bears at great significant when the world has become a ‘global village’ in the 21st century. On his birthday, I hope good thoughts and sense of humanity will prevail in all spheres of society,” he added.
Observing that the root of Rabindranath’s philosophy was democratisation, economic and social justice and dream of establishing human globalisation irrespective of race, religion and caste, the President said, “He (Rabindranath) had travelled through Iraq to Argentina with the message of world peace. His firm stance against colonialism and fascism is the source of our inspiration.”
He went on saying, “Rabindranath used to hate the mephitis of communalism and believe it is possible to build a peaceful society through forging a non-communal bridge among the people of all religions.”
Abdul Hamid expressed the hope that Bangladesh will become a middle-income country by 2021 by ensuring equal development and flourishment of the people of all regions.
He observed that Rabindranath throughout his entire life advocated for peace instead of conflict, unity instead of division and creativity instead of destruction.
Cultural Affairs Secretary Akhtari Momtaz and Prof Sanat Kumar Saha, among others, spoke at the programme held with Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor in the chair.
