The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-2) yesterday issued arrest warrant against Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury for non-payment of fine for contempt of court.
The three-member tribunal headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order after the deadline for payment of Tk 5,000 expired on Wednesday.
On June 10, the tribunal found Zafrullah Chowdhury guilty of contempt and imprisoned him at court for an hour for criticising punishment of Bangladesh-based UK journalist David Bergman.
The court also ordered him to pay Tk 5,000 fine within seven days, in default of which he will have to serve a month in prison.
The tribunal also asked for an explanation to the 49 personalities who signed the statement. Human Rights activist Khushi Kabir withheld her name from the statement and 26 others were released after begging unconditional apology to the court.
Zafrullah appealed to the apex court against the ruling on June 16.
Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, a chamber judge of the Supreme Court, stayed the order but the registrar office of the ICT-2 expressed ignorance of receiving any order from the apex court.
