Seven artistes to be honoured tomorrow

Shilpakala Padak 2015 will be conferred tomorrow to seven senior artistes of the country for their contributions to different fields of art and culture. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) declared the name of seven award recipients yesterday at a press conference held at the Seminer Hall of BSA, where BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky and BSA secretary Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury were present among others. The award recipients of Shilpakala Award 2015 are Saleha Chowdhury in Dance, Nadira Begum in Lok Sanskriti, Kazi Borhan Uddin in Dramatics, Sujeo Shyam in instrumental Music, Nikhil Sen in Recitation, Syed Abul Barq Alvi in Fine Arts and Mihir Kumar Nandi in Music.
Presided over by Cultural Affairs Secretary Begum Akhtari Momtaz, President Abdul Hamid will hand over Padak to the recipients tomorrow at 3 pm at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), while Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will be present as special guest. Each recipient will get a cheque of Taka one lakh, a gold medal and Uttorio. Besides President Abdul Hamid will be honoured with a crest on behalf of the Shilpakala Academy.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy was introduced Shilpakala Padak in 2013 to pay respect to seasoned artistes. The first ever Shilpakala Padak was conferred on Decemeber 30, 2013, to seven artistes- dancer Amanul Haque, classical musician Ustad Matiul Haque Khan, traditional singer Saidur Rahman Bayati, artist Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, Tagore singer Fahmida Khatun, filmmaker Manzare Hassin Murad and theatre activist Khaled Khan (posthumous).
