Rajshahi University Teachers Association (RUTA) and Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers Associations (FBUTA) staged a protest rally on Rajshahi University campus yesterday demanding justice for slain teacher Prof AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee, reports UNB. A group of teachers of RUTA and FBUTA gathered in front of Senate building of the university around 12pm and staged the rally. Teachers of different public universities expressed their frustration over the murders of university teachers one after another. They claimed that the teachers are facing insecurity as culprits are threatening them in various ways. Presided over by Ruta president Prof Md Shahidullah, the rally was attended, among others, by RU vice-chancellor Professor Muhammad Mizanuddin, FBUTA president Prof Farid Uddin, and its general secretary Prof ASM Maksud Kamal. The FBUTA observed sit-in on the Dhaka University campus wearing black badges on Monday protesting the killing. The FBUTA also abstained from attending classes for three hours from 10am to 1pm in all universities to press for their demand. Prof Rezaul Karim, 58, of the RU English Department, was killed by miscreants in the citys Shalbagan area while he was waiting for university bus on April 23. Victims son Sourov Hossain filed a murder case with Boalia Police Station. The case was transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of police.
