Renowned radio and television newscaster Sirajul Majid Mamun passed away due to respiratory complicacy at a hospital in Houston, USA, at 5.41 am Dhaka local time yesterday. He was 73, reports BSS.
He left behind his wife, two sons and host of relatives, friends, admirers to mourn his death.
“Mamun was admitted to a local hospital in Houston with breathing problem on Sunday. He died early yesterday morning while undergoing the treatment,” said Professor Shamsul Majid Harun, younger brother of Sirajul Majid Mamun. Prof Harun told BSS Mamun will be buried at Houston after his namaj-e-janaza at a local mosque there.
Sirajul Majid Mamun, an engineer by profession, started his media career as an announcer in the then Radio Pakistan in mid 60s. After that he became popular newscaster both in radio and television. Mamun first appeared in television as news caster in 1967.
Mamun graduated from BUET in 1966. He was very active in BUET Alumni, the association of BUET graduates, of which he was a vice president till his last day.
BUET Alumni has expressed condolence at the death of Sirajul Majid Mamun.
