Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) accorded a gala reception in honour of Bangladesh Under-14 National Football Team for their outstanding performance in the just concluded AFC U-14 Girls’ Regional Football Championship yesterday.
Sponsored by Saif Powertec, the reception programme was held at the conference room of the BFF Bhaban in Motijheel.
Thrashing neighbouring India by 4-0 goals in the lopsided final at Aviator Stadium, Dushanbe in Tajikistan on May 1, Bangladesh successfully defended their credible regional title through emerging unbeaten South and Central Zone champions for the second consecutive times.
They earned the feat for the first time in Nepal while the hosts were thumped by the visitors by 1-0 goal in the keenly contested-final encounter at Dasarath Rangasala Stadium, Kathmandu in December last year.
Re-elected BFF president Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin was present as the chief guest.
Congratulating the triumphant team, Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin said, “The day is not for us. It’s the day for them to speak out. The performance the U-14 team showed in Tajikistan I hope they will keep it up in future also.”
“I hope that BFF Women’s Wing will devise more new and developed programme for the women’s team. We’ll give our nod to execute those developed plans in our board so that country’s football could fetch more pride and glory for us,” Salahuddin also said at the programme.
Seeking the assistance from all quarters, captain Marzia said, “We became successful of our target in Tajikistan but we didn’t want to stop here. We want to go more ahead. For it, we want the assistance from all.”
On behalf of the team’s players, striker Tahura Khatun, who scored 10 goals with a couple of hattricks- the highest scorer of the tournament, said “We had toiled hard at practice camp in BKSP in order to do well in the tournament. We’ve reached our target becoming champions. Actually we got the spirit to be champion when our national anthem was played in the stadium.”
Tahura and Marzia along with other six girls of the victorious team including Shamsun Nahar, Nazma Akhtar, Shajeda Khatun, Taslima Akhtar, Maria Khatun and Mahmuda Khatun hailed from the same village of Kolsindur Girls High School, Mymensingh.
Abdus Salam Murshedy, who was elected unopposed as BFF senior vice president, coupled with Saif Powertec managing director Tarafdar Md. Ruhul Amin also spoke on the occasion.
“We’ve to take them ahead further. We’ve taken the initiative to host the reception so that they could bring more glory and success for the country in future. They enhanced the image not only of the country but also the country’s football,” Tarafdar Md. Ruhul Amin said in his welcome speech.
BFF vice-presidents Mahiuddin Mahi and Tabith Awal, BFF executive member Mahfuza Akhter Kiron along with winning team’s players, coaches and officials were also present.
At the fag’s end of the reception programme, the chief guest handed over crest and cash rewards amongst the winning team’s players, coaches and officials.
