No progress in killing probes

Being in a constant state of denial never resolved any crisis for anyone, anywhere instead, it has worsened it
No progress in killing probes

At the outset, the series of recent killings in Bangladesh were limited within secular and atheist bloggers and writers. The range in diversity of killings quickly broadened to non-Muslim religious leaders, professors to even foreign nationals. Especially the killing of three people in a couple of days in last April has undeniably triggered fears that the incidence of killing was going beyond control. In the wake of such terrifying incidents it was expected that our law enforcers would try their best to solve these crimes. Run the extra mile for identifying killers while discover the motives behind the killings. Unfortunately little visible progresses were made regarding the killings. Amid a galore of promises and assurances our law enforcers have failed to deliver what they were meant to: concrete results based on substantial evidence and competent investigations. In addition, in the last few cases where the Islamic State (IS) is reported to have claimed responsibilities is still a somewhat unascertained and unsettled phenomenon. The government has disputed and denied claims by so-called IS or al Qaeda-linked groups for carrying out the killings , in its place it often blamed opposition parties or local Islamist groups for destabilising the country. Whoever the actual perpetrators are, they still remain triumphant while concealing their genuine source of power.
Repeated failures in deciphering the recent murders clearly hints at the alarming condition of the state’s crime fighting instrument to be either incompetent or too weak to combat the rising militant , terror  and extremist threats. Not only we manifestly observed failures in solving puzzling killing cases, but also seen little of how miserably the state’s intelligence wing has performed in terms of deterring increased radicalisation in Bangladesh.
Instead of listening to blame-games we call for effective and sincere investigations to our law enforcement agencies for bringing the culpable of recent and all killings to justice. Impunity will only contribute to a climate of intolerance and lead to further unfortunate deaths. If our law enforcement agencies are truly failing to deliver justice of the recent killings then they should  admit it and seek international cooperation in terms of fighting militancy and extremism at home. It should focus on transfer and training of advanced crime fighting methodologies. Bring in international experts to strengthen their investigative capabilities while becoming tech-savvy to avert potential future killings. The concentrated effort to make progress in probes is absent because their honest admission is missing.  So far their repeated denials to properly investigate the killings have been like ‘handling what they are unable to handle’ and being in a constant state of denial never resolved any crisis for anyone, anywhere instead, it has worsened it.
