Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and Dhaka district administration will jointly conduct four mobile courts every day in the capital to check the food adulteration during the month of Ramzan.
Minister for Industries Amir Hossain Amu told this while addressing at a press briefing on the special initiative of BSTI to control adulteration and contamination of essential commodities during Ramzan at his ministry yesterday.
“The BSTI will carry out mobile court drive at any place in the capital during the month of Ramzan to ensure the food and drinks free from adulteration”, the minister said.
Besides, drives against adulteration will also be conducted throughout the country by the regional offices of BSTI, Amu said. The minister said special priority will be given on the food items and drinks that are mostly consumed during iftar and sehri.
He said already samples of 30 food items have been sent to the lab for quality check.
In addition, the minister said the families of those businessmen who use contaminated substandard food may also be the victim. The drive will be conducted throughout the country by the regional BSTI office.
BSTI officers will also take part in the drive along with district administration, RAB and DMP to ensure transparency, the minister added.
Talking about the activities of BSTI, the minister said a total 755 mobile court drives has been conducted by BSTI in the last 11 months and 51 unscrupulous businessmen involved with food adulteration was punished.
Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, secretary of Industries Ministry and Iqramul Haque, director general of BSTI also present at the event.
