Tamim, Shakib shape Bangladesh
innings with fluent 50s

Swashbuckling opener Tamim Iqbal became the first Bangladeshi batsman to score 500 plus runs against India in the three-match series opener at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Tamim smashed 62 ball-60 hitting seven fours and one six and on the way to his 30th ODI half-century he accomplished the feat. Tamim however always finds India particularly to his liking after his 54 in the 2007 World Cup scripted Bangladesh’s victory against India which paved the Indians early exit from that World Cup. From then on, he always remains extra motivated against India.
The hard-hitter opener gave the side a brisk start as he shared a 102-run partnership with Soumya Sarkar. It was the first time that Bangladesh got a century partnership against India in their opening stand. Tamim and Soumya indeed stunned India with an array of powerful strokes after Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza elected to bat first in the overcast condition. The swashbuckling opener on his way to 30th ODI half-century was more restrained than his younger colleague Soumya Sarkar who took the Indian bowlers with utter derision. However the stand which threatened to give India more affliction was broken due to the misunderstanding between the two which caused a run-out dismissal of Soumya.
Following the dismissal of their significant stand, Bangladesh basically fell in tittering position losing their four top-order batsmen in the space of 44 runs.
The left-handed opener touched the 500-run landmark in Umesh Yadav’s first delivery of the third over.
He thereafter extended the scoring wheel and completed his half-century with boundary when he lofted Mohit Sharma’s length ball to long-off for four.
This was his 30th half-century in 145 one day appearance but seventh against India in 16 one day outings.
He was closely followed by Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan, both of whom played respectively 17 and 14 matches with the scoring of 476 and 459.
Although the 26-year-old batsman played 16 matches against the next-door neighbour he is yet to hit any century. He struck six hundreds, twice against Pakistan and one each against Zimbabwe, England, Sri Lanka and Ireland.
Tamim, the Chittagong-born opener, who hails from a cricketing family, played 145 one day internationals, where he scored 4497 with the best of 154 against Zimbabwe.
Tamim slammed the highest scores of 2355 runs in ODI at home yard, where he hammered the highest four century with the best of 132 against Pakistan in Dhaka in 2015. Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan made 2216 with three hundreds. Tamim did it playing from 73 matches, while Shakib’s 79.
Mushfiqur Rahim scored 2195 from 83 matches with two century and 15 half-century, averaging 34.84, which is better than Tamim, who has 33.64 in average. But Shakib’s average is better than both Tamim and Mushfiq.
