Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has been closed for 15 days following demonstrations of students over the suspension of four of their fellows on sexual harassment charge.
At least 10 students were wounded as police charged batons on the agitating students of JUST yesterday morning. The authority has declared the university closed till May 11 after the agitated students confined Vice-chancellor Professor Abdus Sattar, university sources said.
The resident male students have been asked to vacate their dormitories by 6pm yesterday while male ones by 9am on Wednesday.
The decision came at a Syndicate meeting of the university held yesterday afternoon, Kamrul Hasan, personal secretary to the VC, said.
Earlier several days ago, the JUST authorities suspended four students after the allegation of harassing a female student of the university against them was proved. Since then, a group of university students had been staging demonstrations protesting the decision, said Ilias Hossain, officer in-charge of Kotwali police station.
