Sheikh Jamal win a cliff hanger

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club continued their winning streak when they beat Abahani Limited by four wickets in the last ball thriller of the second round game of the Dhaka Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Opted to bat first, Abahani Limited compiled an inclusive 287-4 in 50 overs thanks to Tamim Iqbal (90), Uday Kaul (63) and Nazmul Hossain Shanto (52). In its pursuits, Sheikh Jamal chased down the target by Muktar Ali’s emphatic six over long-on in the last ball of the innings.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club needed 21 runs from the last three overs. Taskin Ahmed conceded just four runs in the 48th over. But Abul Hasan Raju broke the balance when he gave 14 runs in the 49th over. In the last over, Sheikh Jamal needed only seven runs.
Taskin sent Jamal on the backfoot when two wickets were fallen in Taskin’s two consecutive deliveries. Later Muktar Ali strolled home with an emphatic six over the long-on off Taskin Ahmed and gave Jamal’s dug-out something to cheer about.
Opener Mahbubul Karim played a catalyst role when he plundered all Abahani’s bowlers at his will. En route to his 130, the opener stitched a couple of handy partnerships, including 67-run opening wicket with Joyraz Sheik and 125-run with Marshal Ayub for the second wicket, which inspired hugely in Jamal’s tent.
Karim, who was not in cricket owing to joining in the CPL, clattered five sixes as well as 15 fours in his 110-ball knock. Marshal fell three runs short of his fifty. Skipper Mahmudullah (27) and Nazmus Sadat (33) were the other double digit scorers for the winning side.
Saqlain Sajib and Nazmul Hossain Shanto took two wickets each. Taskin Ahmed picked up one wicket for Abahani.
Earlier, Abahani Limited made a good start scoring 44 before being lost their opener Avishek Mitra (21). Just 25 runs later, wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Kumar Das trapped leg before wicket by Moniruzzaman.
This time Tamim Iqbal partnered Uday Kaul and 80-run for the third wicket. Tamim, who missed 10 runs short of his hundred, clouted 11 boundaries before being caught by Shafiul Islam off Mahmudullah.
Together with Kaul, Nazmul Hossain Shanto hit 55-run for the fourth wicket stand, which crossed the 200-run mark. Kaul was cleansed by Sohag Gazi off Muktar Ali, who bagged one wicket for 65 in 10 overs.
Later, Shanto (52) made an unbeaten 83-run with Mosaddek Hossain Saikat (46), which set a comprehensive 288 run target, the score which proves wasn’t enough in this batting friendly wicket.
