Election to Jadobpur Union Parishad in Sakhipur upazila of Tangail has remained suspended for long 13 years hampering development works. Frustration and disappointment have been prevailing among the voters and the aspiring candidates. Electorates do not know when the polls will be held.
Sources said polls for Jadobpur UP were held in 2002. The UP chairman and members have been discharging their duties for over two terms now.
After voted to power, the Awami League government reconstituted the union into two unions considering its large population. One union retained the name Jadobpur and the other named as Kalomegha.
Countrywide UP polls were held in 2011. But the polls of the UPs did not take place due to a court case relating to boundary dispute.
Although the case on boundary dispute was settled a fresh case has been lodged over the naming of the other union as Kalomegha. The polls of the two UPs have been held up.
DM Shariful Islam Safi conveyer of ‘Nirbachan Sangram Parishad’ said that the people of the two union parishads are unhappy about the delay in holding the polls.
