SI closed for charging baton on pickets

Pobitra Kumar Mondal, sub-inspector of Barisal Kotwali model thana, yesterday was closed for charging baton on the hartal supporters in Sadar road area of the city on Tuesday morning.
At least six persons were injured by police personnel during half- day hartal enforced by the Progotishil Chhatra Jote protesting the killing of Comilla Victoria College girl Sohagi Zahan Tonu.
The incident took place when activists of Progotishil Chhatra Jote, Chhatra Union and Samajtantrik Chatra Front gathered at Sadar road of the city near Ashwini Kumar Hall premises and made obstruction on the road. Police later rushed to the spot and tried to control the situation. At one stage police started altercation with picketers.
Police later charged the batons on the picketers and postponed their meeting. Six including president of district unit Chhatra Union A B Siddiki, organising secretary Md Pritom, Md Mamun and Nilima of Chhatra Front and school girl Trisha were injuried.
Pickets later demanded punishment of SI Pobitra and BMP authority later closed him to police lines at night.
