RAJSHAHI: The indefinite transport strike enforced by the Motor Sramik Union in the district was called off on Saturday night following assurance of action against an RMP official for assaulting a union leader, reports UNB.
Earlier on Friday, Mahatab Hossain Chowdhury, general secretary of the district Motor Sramik Union, was allegedly assaulted by Susanta Kumar Roy, assistant commissioner of the Detective Branch of RMP. Later the leaders and activists of the union staged a demonstration in the bus stand area at night. They also enforced the indefinite strike from Saturday morning. “We’ve decided to withdraw our strike after a meeting with the local administration that assured us of meeting our demand,” said Mahatab Hossain Chowdhury. Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shamsuddin was present at the meeting.
