Chittagong Abahani Limited as expected booked a semifinal berth of the KFC Independence Cup Football Tournament when they had a struggling 1-1 draw with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club after coming from a goal down.
Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, Emeka Darlington scored for Jamal at the early hour and Alison Udoka struck the equaliser to bring Chittagong Abahani in the semifinal.
Chittagong Abahani desperately needed the draw to move into semifinal as Muktijoddha had also nine points from five matches and the Ctg outfit made it success to earn 10 points after the draw.
Meanwhile, the top seeded Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, who booked their semifinal berth after winning four matches in a row before this encounter took the match as a battle of prestige, as they have another combat off the field and a huge crisis of relationship between them with players’ transfer dispute.
However, the confrontation started with good paces with both sides began the match with strong attacks and counter attacks strategy and throughout 90 minutes time they kept up the tempo.
Sheikh Jamal came to break the deadlock in the very 16th minute when Emeka Darlington converted a penalty in style with giving Ctg Abahani goalkeeper Ashraful Islam Rana no chance to save.
Jamal got the penalty when keeper Rana trying to halt a goal-bound Wedson Anselme grounded inside the box and referee Mizanur Rahman made no hesitation to direct for a spot kick (1-0).
Both side, though made the encounter very entertaining one but failed to score goals, despite going closer.
After taking a solitary goal first half lead, Jamal adopted a bit defensive strategy at the initial time and Chittagong Abahani utilised the advantage to put the opponents into tremendous pressure but failed to mark the target for once.
Finally Alison Udoka salvaged Chittagong Abahani with nodding home a nice goal when Tarek Al Janabi floated a free kick which found the Haitian in the right position to send into net on 73rd (1-1).
