The BNP is playing its ‘broken record’ of allegations against the government after being defeated in the politics of power, said ruling Awami League Presidium member and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.
“Whenever the elections are close, the BNP starts its old habit of bringing allegations against the ruling party and the government. As a major political party, the BNP itself has made itself ineffective in politics,” he told reporters at Maizdee in Noahkhali after attending at reunion programme there yesterday.
The minister said the Union Parishad elections have been held under a political banner for the first time in the country’s history. So, some irregularities could be there, and the same can be corrected the next time, he added. Claiming that there were few irregularities and incidents of violence in the first phase of UP elections, the AL senior leader said the third phase elections will be held today in 617 Unions, which is a large canvas. The government is extending all-out support to the Election Commission to hold the next phases of elections more peacefully and fairly, he observed.
“I hope the next phases of UP elections will be free, fair, credible and acceptable to all,” he added.
