CU student drowns in Halda River

CHITTAGONG: A student of Chittagong University (CU) drowned in Halda River in Hathazari upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Noman, 25, a second year student of International Relations Department of CU. Noman hailed from Rangunia upazila of the district. Ismail Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hathazari police station, said Noman along with his several university friends went to Nangolmora village of Hathazari upazila to attend the marriage ceremony of one of his friends’ elder brother. “They went to take bath in Halda River around 11-30am yesterday and were trying to swim across the river but Noman started to drown at the middle of the river”, the OC said adding that Noman’s friends tried to save him but could not. On information, divers of the Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot and were conducting rescue operation till filing of this report.
