The areas that got water-logged following the rainfall include Zindabazar, Laldhigirpar, Ambarkhana, Lamabazar, Mirabazar,
Nayasarak, Uposhohor, Barutkhana, Kuarpar, Teroratan and Sheikh Ghat.
Finding on vehicles in hand, the commuters were forced to wade through the stagnant water towards their destination. Lanes, houses and shops were submerged mostly in the low-lying areas.
The downpour that continued from 6pm to 10pm disrupted power supply, putting the city residents into darkness for several hours.
Townspeople blamed improper drainage system for the water stagnation in the city areas.
However, normalcy came back to the public life on Friday morning as the rainwater receded from the city roads.
