A magnificent late strike from Awudu Ibrahim destroyed the dream of Mohammedan Sporting Club to move into the semifinal of the KFC Independence Cup football tournament when Brothers won the match by 3-2 yesterday.
Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, despite winning the match Brothers could not vash on it as they were already eliminated from the race.
Mohammedan accumulated six points from their all five group matches and finished the campaign behind Muktijoddha and Brothers
However, Mohammedan tried their level best to win the match playing with attacking move right from the first whistle and also bounced back strongly from a 0-2 down to raise the hope to win the match but Brothers finally wrapped up the show with Awudu Ibrahim displaying some of his class.
Despite being eliminated before this match, Brothers did not leave any space for Mohammedan, as they played with positive approach and won the match after sharing the ball possession equally throughout 90 minutes.
Mohammedan, who drew the first blood early in the fourth minute, could take the lead but a goal-bound ball was saved by Brothers defender Ibrahim when Ismail Bangura’s shot was going to enter into the open net.
Brothers reacted strongly just two minutes later and this time Mohammedan defender Pouemi Landy make a goal-line save off an Nkowcha attempt.
After goalless first half, both sides became more desperate to score goals and Brothers broke the deadlock inside five minutes and scored two goals in a span of two minutes.
Mannaf Rabbi opened the scoring on 50th with slamming home a superb cross from Awudu Ibrahim (1-0). Manarf Rabbi struck another one when he stunned all with a spectacular goal after receiving a long ball from Nkowcha (2-0).
Mohammedan bounced back strongly to make the tally 1-2 on 53rd minute and equalled on 65th minute with Biplu slammed home a Sabuk cross (2-2).
When match became excited Ghanaian veteran forward, who wore the Sky Blue jersey last seven years and played a vital role of Abahani’s four times including hat-trick championship of the Bangladesh Premier League, scored the marvelous goal when his curling shot from zero angle entered into the far post (3-2).
