Bhawaiya song evening at IGCC Saturday

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) is organising an evening of Bhawaiya songs by Shafiul Alam Raza at its Gulshan Premises on Saturday.
Shafiul Alam Raza learnt music in his childhood from his parents. He has not got any institutional education in music but owes greatly to his teacher Ustad Nurul Islam Zahid from whom he got theoretical knowledge of music. He is a ‘Special’ grade singer of Bangladesh Radio and ‘First Class’ singer of Bangladesh Television. He has also given many performances in Tara Music and several other channels of India. He has given many solo and group stage performances in Bangladesh and abroad, including India and Sydney.
Shafiul Alam was awarded as a singer of ‘Bhawaiya’ by Bengal Foundation in their ‘Search for genius at folk song’. As he is an eminent Bhawaiya singer, he has got popularity in the TV channels and among the audience as the ‘Bhawaiya Raza’,
‘Bhawaiya Rajkumar’ and ‘Bhawaiya Feriwala’. He has released mixed album from Bengal Foundation and solo album titled ‘Kabar Dekhiya Jan’ from Violin Media.
Shafiul Alam has established a band of singers named ‘Bhawaiya’ in 2008. He has also set up a ‘Bhawaiya School’ in 2011 in Dhaka. He imparts free training in Certificate Course to the learners for one year without any fee. He has conducted several workshops in Bangladesh. He has worked as a playback singer in the Bengali films ‘Uttarer Sur’ and ‘Adam-Howa’. ‘Uttarer Sur’ has been awarded both nationally and internationally.
Shafiul Alam is also a journalist and is working as a senior reporter with the Daily Jugantor. He has also won many awards as a journalist.
