Palakar celebrates Ataur Rahman�s birthday with �Narigon� today

To celebrate the 74th birthday of veteran theatre personality Ataur Rahman, theatre troupe Palakar will stage their much-acclaimed production Narigon today at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the city.
Noted author-playwright Syed Shamsul Haq wrote the play in 2005. The play is directed by Ataur Rahman, who is known as Mancha Sarathi, in the theatre arena.
Before the staging of Narigon, a cake cutting ceremony will also take place for Ataur Rahmans birthday and traditional Bangladeshi drama Jatra activist Milon Kanti Dey will recite the poem to the honour of the veteran.
Though Narigon is based on the historic events involving the last independent Nawab of Bengal, Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulahs life, the title - meaning women - suggests it focuses on female characters. The play narrates how the women of the royal family survived or what happened to them immediately after the Nawabs fall. Besides the battle of Polashy, the play focuses on the conjunction of womens involvement in politics and their social position. The central characters are: Nawab Alivardi Khans wife (Siraj-ud-Daulahs grandmother); Amina Begum and Begum Lutfunnissa (Siraj-ud-Daulahs mother and wife respectively) and Ghaseti Begum (the Nawabs aunt who conspired against him).
The cast of the play includes Farhana Mithu, Dipta Rakkhit, Tania Hossain, Fahmida Mallik and Jayita Mahalanobis among others. Aniket Pal Babu is in stage choreography while Thandu Raihan and Ajoy Das are in light design and music direction respectively.
