GOPALGANJ: The officer-in-charge (OC) of Kashiani police station was withdrawn from duty following a directive of the Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday night, four days ahead of the union parishad elections in the district, reports UNB.
Superintendent of police of the district SM Emran Hossain said EC faxed a letter, signed by Deputy Secretary M Shamsul Alam of the commission, issuing an order to withdraw OC Manirul Islam of Kashiani police station.
Someone else will be appointed in place of Manirul yesterday, the SP added.
The EC’s decision came after several allegations that Manirul had harassed an independent chairman aspirant and some member candidates.
