Titumir College ex-GS dies of cancer
Anwarul Haq Bhuiyan, a former general secretary (GS) of Titumir College Student Union, died of cancer at a hospital in the capital on Tuesday. He was 40, reports UNB.
Anwar, who had been undergoing treatment at Green Life Hospital for brain cancer, breathed his last in the evening, said a BNP press release. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock at his death. In a condolence message, he prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Businessman held in Ctg
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday arrested a businessman from Agrabad Commercial area for earning Taka 1.10 crore beyond known sources of his income. Aziz Bhuiyan, director of ACC, Chittagong divisional office, said an ACC team led by Roisuddin arrested the businessman Naimul Islam, 45, for earning the money. A case was filed with Kotwali thana on July 27 in 2015 in this connection, he said.
Man dies in Ctg road crash
An unidentified man died in a road accident in Shakpura village under Boalkhali upazilain Chittagong of the district in the early Tuesday.
Police said the man about 50-year-old received serious injuries when a pickup van collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Choumuhoni area of Shakpura around 3.30am. He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared him dead, said Nayek Mohammad Hamid of CMCH police outpost.
