A Chittagong court yesterday sent five Ready Made Garments (RMG) business men to jail over case filed for importing 288 cartons of cigarettes instead of cottons abusing bond facilities in Chittagong.
Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judge Md Shah Nur passed the order. The five businessmen were identified as Mujibur Rahman, Managing Director of Genetic Fashion Limited of Ashulia of Savar Dhaka and its four directors Raid Hossain, Ahmedur Arju, Wahid Islam and Towhidul Islam. “The five business men plead for bail to High Court (HC) after surrendering before the court but the HC ordered them to surrender to lower court. As per the HC order they surrender before the court and the court sent them to jail,” said Md Fakruddin Chowdhury, Public Prosecutor of Chittagong Metropolitan. On March 1, 2015, Genetic Fashion Limited declaring cottons imported 288 cartons of cigarettes. They brought the goods under bond facilities.
The estimated price of the cigarettes was Tk7.20 crore.
A case was lodged with Bandar Police Station on March 2 in the connections.
