Robber lynched in Jhenidah
A notorious robber was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Gouripurnath village in Maheshpur upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Maheshpur Police Station, said local people caught Nazrul Islam Dakat,50, a resident of the same village, while he tried to steal a goat from a house in the village at about 4:30 am.
Later, the mob gave Nazrul a good thrashing, leaving him dead on the spot.
Informed police recovered the body and sent it to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

3 arrested after ‘gunfight’
Benapole: Three alleged members of a criminal gang, including one bullet-injured, were arrested after a gunfight between police and their associates at Bakure in
Sharsha upazila of Jessore district early yesterday, reports UNB.
Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sharsha police station, said on a tip-off that a gang of criminals, including notorious criminal Khora Kamrul and his associates Chanchal Miah and Mostafa Kamal, were staying in the area, police conducted a drive there at about 5:30am.
Sensing the presence of police, Kamrul and his associates opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate with gunfire, leaving Kamrul injured.
Later, police arrested injured Kamrul and his associates Chanchal and Mostafa while other members of the criminal gang managed to escape.
The law enforcers also recovered two pistols, two magazines and two rounds of bullet from the spot.
Kamrul is wanted in several cases, including for murder, extortion, robbery and kidnap, the OC added.

2 jailed for child marriage
Barguna: A mobile court here on Monday sentenced two women to one month’s jail each for arranging marriage of a class VIII girl student at Bawalkar village in sadar upazila, reports UNB.
On secret information, Ibrahim, Sadar upazila nirbahi officer, with a team of police conducted a raid on the house of the girl at the village in the afternoon, when her marriage was set to be solemnised.
Sensing danger, the family members concealed the girl.
Later, police detained the bride’s two aunts—Pakhi and Sakhina—and the mobile court sentenced them to one month’s jail each.
One held with yaba tablets
Chapainawabganj: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug trader with 3,000 yaba pills from Boro Indara square in Chapainawabganj town on Monday, reports BSS.
The arrested person is Titu Maker, 41, son of late Abdul Hye of Sundarpur Bagdanga in Chapainawabganj sadar upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB Chapainawabganj camp raided the area and held Titu with the yaba tablets. The tablets were being carried in a tiffin carrier, RAB sources said.
Later, he was handed over to Sadar thana police.
A case was recorded with concerned thana in this connection.
