A six-member Bangladesh weightlifting team will leave for Tashkent to participate in the 27th Senior Women and 46th Men’s Asian Weightlifting Championship to be held from April 21 to 30 at the Uzbekistan capital.
Bangladesh Weightlifting Federation (BWF) had selected a 12-member team for the Tashkent meet. But eventually they have to leave out six lifters from the touring party due to lack of fund.
This time only four female lifters will represent the country. All four lifters have been selected on the basis of their performance in the recently held SA Games in India. The team members are: Mabia Akhtar Simanta, who won gold medal in the SA Games, in 63 kg category. Silver medal winners Fulpati Chakma in 58 kg and Rokeya Sultana in 69 kg and bronze medal winner Molla Sabira Sultana in 48 kg. Shahria Sultana Suchi will accompany the team as coach.
BWF general secretary Mohyuddin Ahmed, who is also the member of Asian Weightlifting Federation, will also go to Tashkent to attend the Asian Weightlifting Federation meeting.
