Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club defeated Mutijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 3-1 in the KFC Independence Cup football tournament at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital yesterday.
By virtue of this win, Sheikh Jamal became the first team to book semifinal berth with one group match still to play.
Jamal kept their winning streak despite facing good challenge from Muktijoddha, who had also a chance to move into the semifinal before conceding the defeat yesterday.
Wedson Anselme, who scored the first hat-trick, scored one goal and assisted one each for Emeka Darlington and Landing Darboe while Mobarok reduced one for Muktijoddha.
Though Sheikh Jamal won the match almost by a clear margin but the result does not show the real picture of the match as Muktijoddha contested throughout 90 minutes time and also created some good chances but the forwards failed to operate perfectly the chances.
Both Sheikh Jamal and Muktijoddha started the match with nine points, though for the latter it was last match to brighten the chance to go ahead but after conceding the defeat there is a very slim hope.
Chittagong Abahani are also on track with  nine points from four matches and Mohammedan were also yet to be eliminated as they earned six points and one match left to play.’
However, Emeka Darlington initiated the scoring with a super finish of a Wedson right side cross in the danger area while the Nigerian forward sent the ball into net being under strong marking of Mukti’s defenders on 13th minute (1-0).
Wedson created another chance on 44th minute and this time he provided the ball for Gambian forward Landing who rushed quick to shot on a running ball (2-0).
Wedson himself fired home with low right foot volley into the near post when he entered into the box with a solo run leaving behind two defenders (3-0).
Muktijoddha, who worked hard could reduce one goal when Mobarok converted a penalty on 49th minute (1-3).
